The Second Opening Ceremony of AFO Held Successfully
On the morning of October 9th, the second opening ceremony of the Academy of Future Ocean(AFO) was held on Laoshan campus.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Professor Liu Qinyu, Dean of the AFO, extended a warm welcome to the experts who attended the opening ceremony and read out the second-phase student list.
Professor Zhao Meixun, vice president of the Institute for Advanced Ocean Study(IAOS) and deputy director of the Frontiers Science Center for Deep Ocean Multispheres and Earth System(DOMES), pointed out that AFO is a platform for cultivating world-class scientists. Through one year's exploration and construction, the AFO has achieved initial results in moral education and improving students' independent thinking and questioning ability. He hoped that in the future students could follow their supervisors to participate in more cutting-edge research work of International Marine Science.
Professor Lin Xiaopei, the supervisor of IASO, put forward three suggestions and requirements for the new students: the students should aim to become the leader in the development of Marine Science, and bravely climb the scientific peak; students should be actively communicating with the supervisors; students should think twice before doing in scientific research, it would be time-saving.
Cai Jinzhuo, the 1st year master student of Physical Oceanography, as well as the first-phase student of AFO, expressed his thanks to all teachers. Based on his one-year study experience in the AFO, he shared his understanding of the educational concept and introduced his personal feelings in the learning process. He encouraged all the students to keep their mission in mind, cherish their time, study hard, and strive to become excellent talents with both professional academic level and practical operation ability.
Zhang Ruize, the 2017 undergraduate majoring in Marine Science, the second-phase student representative, expressed his expectation for starting a new journey in AFO.
